Desalination is a process to remove the salts and minerals from the saline water. Desalination can be achieved by traditional distillation process or by vacuum distillation, multi-stage flash distillation, multiple effect distillation, vapor-compression distillation, and reverse osmosis and other methods. All these processes require the use of desalination pumps in order to maintain proper flow. This reduces the pressure of supplying potable and clean water. Desalination pumps are primarily used in desalination plants. There are two types of desalination pumps- Centrifugal Pump and Positive Displacement Pump. The use of either of these pumps depends upon the size of the plant. Small capacity plants use positive displacement pumps, whereas large capacity plants use centrifugal pumps. The positive displacement pumps are further categorized into reciprocating (Piston, Diaphragm) pumps and rotary pumps. The centrifugal pumps are divided into Single Stage Pump, Multi-Stage pump, Axial Mixed Flow Pump, Submersible pumps and Sealless Circular pumps.
